There is a contradiction in the above comments: the Renault 4CV never had a 42 bhp engine and a 140 km/h top speed. According to my information, the first engine had 760 cm3 and 18 bhp, and the second engine (1950) had 748 cm3 and 22 bhp giving it a top speed of 110 km/h. There were also sport versions with tuned up engines, but not sold to the general public.

One last quote from my Encyclopedia,:particularly desirable was the R1052 Sport variant, which offered a respectable 31kW (42bhp)and enough flexibility to cruise at over 130km/h(80mph),while the car's,nimble chassis and short wheelbase, meant it even enjoyed minor competition success.
